Judy’s baptism

How did you meet Jesus?

I didn’t grow up in a Christian home, although I did go to Sunday school as a child. For most of my teens, twenties, and thirties, I lived what you’d call a normal, worldly life. I worked hard, built a family, and eventually started my own conveyancing business. Without realising it, I began to idolise money, achievement, and status. I was a mum, a wife, a business owner, and I thought the only way to hold everything together was to stay in control of every detail.

But that kind of control comes at a cost. I lived with constant anxiety, stress, insecurity, and fear about the future. If something didn’t go to plan, it felt like my whole world stopped. I didn’t have peace—I just had pressure.

During this time, I had a business coach who was a Christian. She would guide me through business decisions and occasionally reference the Bible. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but those seeds were being planted. As life kept piling on, issue after issue, responsibility after responsibility, the weight became too much. One day, everything hit me at once. It wasn’t one particular crisis; it was the accumulation of years of carrying everything in my own strength. I fell to the ground, crying, completely overwhelmed. And for the first time in my life, I looked up and said: ‘I’m done. I actually can’t do this. Please help me.’

How has Jesus changed your life?

That moment changed everything. Not long after, I was invited to the opening of Cornerstone Anglican Church. I began learning what it really meant to follow Jesus—not just to believe in Him, but to trust Him. I realised that having Jesus at the centre of my life meant I didn’t have to carry everything anymore. It felt like I took the heavy bag I’d been dragging for years—full of fear, control, stress, and expectations—and turned it upside down, emptied every pocket, and handed it all over to Him. The relief was remarkable. For the first time, I felt light.

Now, I trust God’s plan for my life. I don’t need to control everything. I don’t need to fear the future. I don’t walk alone. Jesus didn’t just take the weight off my shoulders, he gave me peace, purpose, and a new way of living.
