Five questions with Dominic

Five questions with Dominic—Cornerstone Anglican Church Box Hill

Tell us about a moment from this week that you want to remember.
Going to a Korean barbecue with a couple of friends from church—we devoured all kinds of meats for thirty minutes and spent the rest of the night fellowshipping with food comas.

What did you do last weekend?
I watched the soon-to-be famous Sam Beazley’s band play at the Riverstone-Schofields Memorial Club. Check out their Instagram here and give them a follow!

Can you share a favourite Bible verse with us?
‘Jesus wept.’—John 11:35 (NIV)

Reading the Gospel of John was critical in my coming to a saving faith in Jesus. My father’s family are Muslims, so from a young age, I was always familiar with the idea of God. However, after experiencing a 7.6 magnitude earthquake when I was 10 whilst visiting in Indonesia, I came to see God as someone who was distant, cold, and uncaring in the face of death. For me, the verse shows the beauty of the incarnation: that God in His mercy and grace is truly our Emmanuel. Jesus understands our pain, our troubles, and our heartaches. This verse is a daily comfort in my walk with the Lord.

Tell us about your favourite meal growing up.
Mum’s tuna pasta bake. It’s a ninety minute labour of love, and, to this day, it remains the family favourite. It’s also not so subtly been re-appropriated as the ultimate meal prep dish by yours truly.

Who or what has encouraged you recently?
I recently got back into kids ministry after a one-year hiatus—praise God! Last week, we went through Acts 10 and talked to the kids about Cornelius’ conversion. It’s super awesome to see those ‘light bulb’ moments when big theological ideas click. In this instance, it was when the kids understood that God’s kingdom and grace extend to all peoples around the world.
