Five questions with Kathryn

Five questions with Kathryn—Cornerstone Anglican Church Box Hill

Tell us about a moment from this week that you want to remember.
I am a teacher and a memorable moment for me this week was farewelling a precious colleague and friend who is moving schools. I have worked with her for the past 18 years and was able to reflect on the blessing that she has been in my life. We have shared both life in a school community as well as personal milestones, and even holidays together. It has been a time of recalling all the laughter, tears and many shared memories.

What did you do last weekend?
Last weekend I continued working through all that is needed in moving houses. This also included experiencing what life is like on a semi-rural property when there’s a 27-hour power outage which also affects your access to water. A generator is now at the top of the shopping list!

Can you share a favourite Bible verse with us?
One of my favourite Bible verses is Psalm 139:5: ‘You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me.’ When I read this promise, I picture an image of God, mighty and powerful, physically surrounding me on all sides. When I remember this, I feel courageous and confident with nothing to fear because the Creator of the universe is in front and behind me throughout every day.

Tell us about your favourite meal growing up.
My favourite meal was lasagne made by my grandmother. I remember as a child even telling kids at school about how good it was! I try to replicate it now but it is never as delicious as my Grandma’s.

Who or what has encouraged you recently?
In church a few weeks ago, the illustration of the two sides of a tapestry was used to remind us that we may only see the messy, tangled thread side of our current circumstances but God is present and has a plan, and we will eventually see the beauty and design of the final product. I realised that I could now look back over a tumultuous few decades and see evidence of the plan on the other side of the tapestry—the amazing way that God worked through the tough times to create such beautiful current blessings. I felt quite emotional and very grateful.
