Our Christmas carols
For the second year in a row, we were delighted to collaborate with Bobby Bakehouse Gables to host a Christmas carols event for families in our local community. Held on Sunday 21 December from 6pm to 8.30pm, the evening drew a wonderful crowd of families who came along and joined in despite the rain. Together we enjoyed singing favourite carols such as O Holy Night, O Come Let Us Adore Him, We Wish You A Merry Christmas. Joy to the World became a special highlight when two guests joined our singers on stage—one singing a verse in Hindi and another in Tamil. Bobby Bakehouse kept everyone well fed with delicious food and drinks, while our pastor shared a short and meaningful talk about peace at Christmas. The night also included face painting for the kids, fun Christmas games on stage with audience participation, and one lucky guest even walked away with a prize. Thank you to everyone who joined us—we can’t wait to do it all again next year!
Here are some reflections on the event from our church family:
‘Christmas is the best time of the year—I love the lights, decorations, songs, warmer weather, and yummy food. Our carols event ticked off most of those things! It was an evening that brought the community together, where we were able to hang out with friends and family, while enjoying all our favourite carols which reminded us of the true meaning of Christmas.’
—Kristina
‘Carols was a really encouraging event. There was a real sense of connection throughout the evening and a shared openness to community. It was good to spend time with people from the local area and to see God giving us the opportunity to be present, build genuine relationships, and connect meaningfully.’
—Sally
‘Wow—what an incredible night our Christmas carols at Bobby’s Bakehouse were. It was such a joy watching our community come together as voices were lifted in song, kids enjoyed face painting and balloons, and many meaningful, life-giving conversations were shared with people from across Box Hill. The heart of the night, and the best part of carols, was being able to share the true reason for the season—Jesus. It was a beautiful opportunity to reach the sea of houses in Box Hill with the love of Christ over the Christmas season!’
—Romy
‘Our carols was a great event as we were able to welcome and chat to many of the people from our Box Hill community in a way that they enjoy. It was also great just to see all the hard work of different people from Cornerstone pay off with great music, talks, and games for people of all ages and backgrounds.’
—Daniel
‘I love Christmas carols. I loved seeing so many people from our church and the wider community come together, despite the evening being incredibly hot. The music and singing were beautiful, the kids had a fantastic time, and the message of Jesus being the reason for Christmas was shared so clearly and comfortably. It felt accessible to everyone, and the whole night had such a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.’
—Tammy
‘I’d say our Christmas carols was a success. Even with the crazy weather, people from the community of Box Hill still came along, which was so encouraging. It would’ve been so easy to stay home in the AC instead. I was also really encouraged by how easy it was to chat with people and how much common ground there was (including meeting a few families with golden retrievers!). It was so encouraging to see God at work through the prayers leading up to this event, creating opportunities for people to connect and hear the good news of Jesus.’
—Shane
‘It was great to hang out at Bobby Bakehouse again this year for our annual Christmas carols event. After a very sad and distressing week in Sydney, it was a wonderful occasion for the community to come together and reflect on the wonders and joy of Christmas and the reminder of what Christmas is all about: the birth of our Lord and Saviour into this world, the greatest gift of all!’
