Hannah, tell us about your family.

My parents were born in Malaysia but moved to Australia to study. I have brothers who are twins and a lovely groodle Benny at home.

What does a typical week look like for you?

I spend my week working in the hospital as an occupational therapist. Outside of work, you can find me at Pilates, on a run, at growth group, or at church.

What do you enjoy doing on your days off?

I love to bake, paint, draw and run. Sometimes you might find me in the garden too!

What are the things you appreciate the most about living in the Box Hill area?

I love that there are so many young families who are moving to the area. It’s created such a community-centred environment. People are always out and about at the park or local cafes and everyone is very ethnically diverse.

How long have you been Christians, and who was it that first told you about Jesus?

I grew up in a Christian family. It was only in Year 9 when I decided that I wanted to pursue a relationship with God on my own because I saw very clearly what my life would look like without God.

What has encouraged you from God’s word recently?

‘For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.’—Romans 5:6–9

I’ve been reminded of how undeserving I am of God’s love, yet in my messiest and lowest state, He loved me, chose me and suffered so much for my sin. I’m always humbled and reminded of God’s power and love when I read this passage. It reminds me not to be self-righteous and self-fulfilling, but instead, to re-centre myself around God in the midst of everything that life entails.

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope to be able to have a family that is deeply rooted in God’s word and Christian community. One that draws people in to fellowship over meals and is known to show God’s love and hospitality in everything they put their hands to do.

And lastly, is there an amusing and/or strange fact about yourselves that you’d be happy to share with us?

When I was in high school, I accidentally made a stitch through my hand with a sewing machine as I wasn’t concentrating in class!
