Reflections on our weekend away

Reflections on our weekend away—Cornerstone Anglican Church Box Hill

Ken, recently you went along to the church weekend away with many others from Cornerstone. Can you tell us what the weekend looked like?

It was a great weekend that combined worship time, learning, sharing meals together, and activities. There was also lots of good food and plenty of time to spend with others in our church family and to get to know people that we may not have previously had the opportunity to meet before.

What were some encouraging moments?

Seeing my son Mitchell engaged with people in his growth group, particularly during meals and activities. Meeting and getting to know Ashlee, who recently joined Cornerstone and completed one of the Meet Jesus courses. People pitching in and pivoting to accommodate last-minute changes, including getting a Zoom link up and running and our Sunflower transcription and translation app up and running. The fantastic worship music team that worked super hard throughout the weekend.

What was the big idea of the talks?

The main focus of the weekend’s talks was ‘Prayer’, and, in particular, how prayer expresses our relationship with our Father and how prayer doesn’t have to be complicated or elegant. This was accompanied by practical tips on how to ramp up our prayer life and develop healthy prayer habits. We also had athegreat privilege of hearing the testimonies of both Jesse and Carla.

What was something new that you learnt?

New things I learnt were mostly relational in that I got to spend time with people I hadn’t met before or had not yet had opportunity to get to know well.

What was something you were challenged by?

There is always something to learn that can help to improve prayer habits, both for myself and in encouraging others.
